On August 24, 2006, Alyssa Rose Bruno passed away after a valiant battle with brain stem cancer (diffuse pontine glioma). During her short life she touched the hearts of many people not only in the Rochester area, but also around the world. Her parents, Lori and Chris Bruno, along with family members and their many friends have therefore decided to establish a charitable organization in Alyssa's memory.

In addition to her tremendous courage, Alyssa Bruno displayed exceptional kindness, generosity and sensitivity, particularly towards other children. Her heartfelt concern about the happiness and well being of other human beings was a special gift that we plan to continue to give on her behalf.

The important work of the Alyssa's Angels organization is funded solely through the contributions of private individuals, organizations and businesses. We would welcome your support of our efforts to assist children who are the victims of child abuse or neglect, and those that are experiencing serious medical, emotional or behavioral problems. If you would like to help, please send a check payable to "Alyssa's Angels" to:

Alyssa's Angels
P.O. Box 129
West Henrietta, New York 14586

If you prefer to donate through other means, or if you would like more information about the Foundation, email us at

Your kindness and generosity are very much appreciated!

We're grateful that the Rochester Police Locust Club agreed to partner with us on this Holiday Gift Project to help ABW. The generosity and willingness of our partner organizations is what allows us to continue our work within the community.

Again this year, Alyssa's Angels will be sponsoring a Holiday Gift Project to help children and families in need. We also have five community partners who will be matching our donations. Those partners are: Gates Automotive Center, the Federation of Social Workers, the Rochester Police Locust Club, BRX Research, the Schuler family and the Roides family. Donations are being made to: Wilson Commencement Park, Alternatives for Battered Women, Saint Peter's Kitchen, Melita House and the MCDHS holiday party for children in foster care.

Thanks to everyone for supporting and participating in this very worthwhile project!

"A few months ago, Alyssa's Angels provided funds to get an iPad for a family of a young guy who has a chromosomal disorder. Besides entertainment, one of the main purposes of the iPad was to provide a way to help him communicate, due to his lack of verbal skills. Well, I went to visit the family this week, and I was able to experience his new ability to communicate after about 4 years of struggling, during my visits with the family, because of his minimal verbal skills. It was really exciting for me to be able to experience this for the first time and I know it has helped him and the family. The mother states is also allows him the opportunity to take and keep photos from his perspective. He also uses it to keep his favorite songs and games on it which he uses at times of illness or boredom. I just wanted to drop a short note to let you know you work is impacting people. Thanks again for all you do!"

With heartfelt thanks I'm writing to express gratitude on behalf of Jonathan C & his mother. When I went out to the home with your generous gift card and note to the family, Mom was brought to tears. From your kind donation Jonathan was able to order a new bed and mattress. He is overjoyed! He is excited to pick out sheets, pillows, etc for his bed, as well. Thank you! Thanks you so very much. The lives that you are touching truly makes a difference.
With sincere thanks, Victoria Gerhardt, Case Manager, CompassionNet
